CN Wellington Switching Station
Re-design the abandoned CN Wellington Switching Tower into a co-work office building. A contemporary work area imagined within the heritage building. The inspiration for the design was brought forth by the philosophy that the new addition should not overpower the existing building. With this in mind, the additions were placed surrounding the pre-existing window openings acting as extrusions of the original floor plate. The design focuses on four typologies to the additions: a slight extrusion providing visual interest from the exterior building, a bay window type extrusion at seating height of varying depths to accommodate both sitting and laying down, a standing desk height extrusion to allow building users to enjoy the natural views overlooking the canal as they work, and lastly an extrusion that acts as an extension of the floor plate to create workspaces that blur the boundaries between the interior and the exterior.
